A rare photo of Tri-City Stadium with Wimpy Erwin in his Midget Race car. Tri-City Stadium was a motorcycle and midget car race track that existed from 1933 to 1941 on Mill Road on the site where the Garden State Bowling alley was. The track was named Tri-City due to the fact that racers would drive through Union, Irvington and Hillside as they sped around the course. This claim is currently in dispute and we have our researchers looking into it. We will keep you posted. This photo is from a very rare book entitled "The Midgets at Tri-City Stadium" by Crocky Wright.
The Union Drive-In was in operation from 1936 to 1983 and featured a 1400 car capacity. The drive-in was located on Route 22 east at the current location of The Point Condominium development and Burger King.
