1953 photo of Union Center. The Union Theater marquis displays the film "Shane" which was an historic milestone in cinema history.
Shane was the first film to be shown in the new 1.65:1 widescreen aspect ratio.
The movie was not filmed in widescreen but rather in 4 x 3 format. The bottom and top were "cropped" by the projector similar to what some of us do on our 16 x 9 TVs today.
